The PBGV is not a wirehaired Basset Hound like many assume, they are much more active and lively. They are highly intelligent, sometimes to smart for their own good. A bored PBGV will find something to do, and not always something their owner approves of. They are good with children and other dogs but will chase small animals. They are well-known escape artists and excel at digging and jumping so their yard must be securely fenced and they should not be left outside alone.
